My latest production: Kingdom of Earth, a trilogy of one act plays by Tennessee Williams.
Show #26: Kingdom of Earth. So I went and saw one of the five plays for Drama Centre London’s directing grads. It was only an hour, and it was a combination of three Tennessee Williams plays. The play consisted of only three actors, and may I just say, the three of them pulled off far superior American southern accents than most Americans can. The set was very simple, just some chairs, and a few plain white backdrops that were used for excellent shadow effects. The space was a black box, but it was huge, so with such a small set and cast, it made the lives of these characters seem even smaller and gloomier. In each of the three segments the actors had to take on a completely different role, but the transitions were flawless. They may be ending one show where they were just screaming or sobbing, but this was completely erased by the time the lights came up on the next segment. The emotions were especially penetrative.
